Tuesday afternoon saw MC Dr Charlene Smith open the event, with Wurundjeri Elder Ron James giving us a fantastic Welcome to Country.

Addresses were delivered by ARACY CEO Stephen Bartos, Secretary for the Victoria Department of Education and Training Gill Callister, international keynote speaker Professor Bill Lucas, and Belinda Wall, Principal of Woonona High School NSW.

Stephen Bartos, ARACY CEO

Stephen is the former Parliamentary Budget Officer for NSW, was the former Professor of Governance at the University of Canberra and previously Deputy Secretary in the Commonwealth Finance Department. He has undertaken postgraduate education at Harvard and has a long history of work on social policy. His address on Tuesday afternoon welcomed everyone to the conference and introduced ARACY's role in progressing parent engagement in Australia.

Gill Callister, Secretary, Victoria Department of Education and Training

Gill Callister has dedicated her career to improving public policy and service delivery. Gill is Secretary of the Department (2015-present) and as Secretary, Gill manages a $12 billion budget, leading 2,300 corporate staff to deliver and improve early childhood, school education, and vocational and higher education services across Victoria. She employs a further 55,000 staff in government schools. You can see Gill's conference address from 30m into the video above.

Professor Bill Lucas, Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning

Bill Lucas is internationally regarded for his expertise and research in rethinking the purposes of schooling and vocational training. Most recently, Bill’s research into the assessment of creativity in schools has led to the development of an acclaimed five-dimensional model with active field trials. His keynote was titled 'Rethinking the role of parents and families in the education of their children in a volatile, uncertain and changing world'.

Belinda Wall, Principal of Woonona High School

Woonona High School is a proud and highly successful comprehensive public school in the northern beach suburbs of Wollongong. Its principal, Belinda, has also been the Deputy Principal of three high schools and has held the executive positions of District Guidance Officer (Senior Psychologist) and Relieving Student Welfare Consultant. This broad and extensive experience within Public Education has positioned her as a leader within the education community. Belinda's conference address focused on 'lifting aspirations through community engagement'.
